Points of departure


Rosa Arnold and Ian van den Berk asked me to write a piece for two violins which comments on the bicinia of Lassus. They gave me a couple of these bicinia which they liked and the final piece would include these and my own pieces. I did not intend to write a Lassus-like piece and the end result became a mixture of styles. Two of the parts are Lassus’, three are mine. My pieces took some elements of the bicinia as a starting point and then grew into an entity of their own.
